Kwasi Jones Martin
Kwasi Jones Martin, also known as Kwasi Jones, The Monk, or Eddie Martin, is an English musician, producer, songwriter and singer from London. He has been making music since 1996 and works in hip-hop, R&B, pop and rock. He founded several production teams and recording groups and runs his own publishing label, Monastery Music Group.
While studying commercial music at the University of Westminster, Martin caught the eye of producer Mykaell Riley and worked with him as a programmer and researcher. He then collaborated with artists such as Mark Morrison, Peter Andre, Maria Rowe, MN8 and China Black, and produced demos for Livingston Brown, Gary Benson, Glen Goldsmith and Dionne Bernard (Infinity), who later signed to RCA.
Martin’s first gospel act was 5 in 1, formed with his long-time friend Muyiwa and produced with Qura Rankin. In 2002 he helped form Klinik Music Production with Kenny Yeomans and Patrick Jacobs, bringing many nu-soul artists to Europe and winning an EMMA Award for producing Tasha’s World debut album. The same year he teamed up again with Muyiwa to form the gospel group Riversongz, for which he co-wrote and produced three albums over six years: Restoration, Declaring His Power and Declaring His Love. In 2008, Declaring His Love reached the number one spot on HMV’s gospel chart, becoming the store’s fastest-selling gospel album. The two riversongz albums have sold more than 80,000 copies combined.
In 2007, Martin formed production teams Ashanti Boyz, Afroganic and Monk & Prof with Kwame, also known as Tha Prof. This collaboration produced remixes for Jennifer Lopez’s “Hold It” and Duran Duran’s “Falling Down.” He has worked with many chart-topping acts, including Eternal, Sarah Connor, Tasha’s World, Bootsy Collins, Prince Mydas, Simon Webbe and Il Divo.
