Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park
Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is a protected marine area on Kenya’s southern coast, near Shimoni and Wasini Island in Kwale County, close to the Tanzanian border. It is an IUCN Category II national park. The park covers 11 square kilometers, and the nearby Mpunguti Reserve covers 28 square kilometers (together 39 km2). It was established in 1973 and is managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. The area includes four small islands surrounded by a coral reef. The waters are rich in marine life, including triggerfish, moray eels, angelfish, butterflyfish, groupers, parrotfish, wrasses, scorpionfish, pufferfish, damselfish, rays, snappers, green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, and dolphins. Seasonal visitors include humpback whales and whale sharks. Nearest city: Mombasa.
