Kameņeca Manor
Kameņeca Manor is a historic manor house in Jaunaglonā, Aglona Parish, Preiļi Municipality, in the Latgale region of Latvia. In Latvian it is Kameņecas muiža, in Polish Kamieniec, and in Russian Каменец.
History:
The manor complex, including the stables and chapel, was built in the 18th century and rebuilt in the 20th century. It was owned by several noble families over the years: the Felkerzāms, then the Pavlovici, and finally the Rauti family. The last owner was Michael Reuts.
After the Latvian land reform of 1920, by 1927 the manor housed a Catholic women’s monastery and a gymnasium, which operated from 1929 to 1940. The Sisters of thePoor Child Jesus came from Vienna to work there.
During the Soviet era, the property was used for education: first the Aglona Mechanization School, then an Agricultural School, and later the Jaunaglonā High School. The school was dissolved in 2015, and today the manor is managed by the Aglona Basilica Parish.
On the grounds there is a dendrological plantation and one of Latvia’s oldest water mills.
