BR-453 (Brazil highway)
BR-453, also called Rota do Sol (Route of the Sun), is a federal highway in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state. It runs about 325 kilometers (202 miles) from Venâncio Aires in the west to Terra de Areia on the east coast, connecting the Serra Gaúcha mountains to the coast.
Construction began in 1972 and the highway was completed in 2008. BR-453 serves as a shortcut to the beaches of Rio Grande do Sul, saving roughly 100 kilometers compared with the old route that went through Porto Alegre along BR-290.
The road intersects with several major highways along its path, including BR-386 in Lajeado, BR-470 in Garibaldi, and BR-116 in Caxias do Sul. It connects to local roads in cities such as Lajeado, Garibaldi, Bento Gonçalves, Farroupilha, Caxias do Sul, and São Francisco de Paula.
End points: West – Venâncio Aires, Rio Grande do Sul; East – Terra de Areia, Rio Grande do Sul. Before BR-453, travelers between the Gaucho Range and the coast had to pass through Porto Alegre on BR-290.
