Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik
Lieutenant General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, commonly known as K. T. Parnaik, is a retired Indian Army officer who has served as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh since February 2023. He was born on 28 June 1953 in Poona (now Pune), Maharashtra. He studied at St. Aloysius Senior Secondary School, Sainik School Rewa, the National Defence Academy, and the Indian Military Academy.
Parnaik was commissioned into the 2nd Rajputana Rifles on 31 March 1972. He held several key commands, including leading the 17 Mountain Division in Sikkim and heading the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan. In 2009 he was promoted to lieutenant general and became General Officer Commanding IV Corps in Tezpur, before moving to Army Headquarters as Director General Perspective Planning.
He was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal in 2010 for his role during the 2001–2002 India–Pakistan standoff and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2012. Parnaik served as Army Commander and took command of the Northern Command on 1 January 2011, becoming the first person from Maharashtra to hold that post. He retired from the Army on 30 June 2013.
After retirement, he was appointed Governor of Arunachal Pradesh by the President and assumed office on 16 February 2023. He resides at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar. His brother, A. T. Parnaik, is also a retired lieutenant general who headed the Border Roads Organisation.
