Josh Sale
Josh Sale is an American professional baseball outfielder and third baseman who is currently a free agent. He was born on July 5, 1991, in Seattle, Washington. He bats left and throws right.
Sale was a first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2010 MLB draft (17th overall). He attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, where he had a standout senior year, hitting .520 with 5 home runs, 6 doubles and 20 RBIs. As a junior, he led Washington state with 13 home runs.
His pro career began in 2011 with the Princeton Rays, where he batted .210 in 60 games. In 2012 he played for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, hitting .264 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 74 games. In August 2012, he was suspended for 50 games for banned stimulants. On May 29, 2013, the Rays suspended him for conduct detrimental to the organization after a Facebook post about a strip club visit. In 2014 he played for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, batting .238 with 4 homers and 46 RBIs in 90 games, but was suspended again in August 2014 for a second drug violation. He was released by the Rays on February 27, 2015.
After leaving professional baseball from 2015 through 2020, Sale signed with the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the Atlantic League on May 21, 2021. In 120 games that season, he hit .284 with a .394 on-base percentage and .593 slugging, totaling 34 home runs and 104 RBIs. He became a free agent after the season.
On January 26, 2022, Sale signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. He spent most of 2022 with the Triple-A Round Rock Express and one game with the Frisco RoughRiders, posting a combined .226 batting average with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 239 at-bats. He elected free agency on November 10, 2022.
On February 3, 2023, Sale re-signed with the Rangers on another minor league deal. He played 24 games between Frisco and Round Rock, hitting .179 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. He was released by the Rangers on June 3.
