Solenidae

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Solenidae, commonly known as razor shells, are a family of marine bivalve molluscs. They belong to the kingdom Animalia, the phylum Mollusca, and the class Bivalvia. They are in the order Adapedonta and the superfamily Solenoidea.

Originally, all razor shells were placed in Solenidae. Scientists later split them into two subfamilies, Cultellinae and Soleninae. These subfamilies were eventually recognized as separate families: Cultellinae became Pharidae, and Solenidae now contains only three genera—Solen, Solena, and Neosolen.
