Butts Ferry is a small hand-powered ferry in Exeter, Devon. It carries pedestrians across the River Exe. It has been used since at least 1641, though the name came later. It is named after George Butt, who fought to keep the ferry open in 1971 when the council tried to close it. The current boat is 27 feet (8.2 meters) long and made of aluminium; it was built in 2005 to replace the old wooden ferry. The operator pulls the boat along a cable to cross about 150 feet (46 meters) of river.
