Zealand Air Defence Regiment
The Zealand Air Defence Regiment (Danish: Sjællandske Luftværnsregiment) was a Danish Army anti-aircraft unit based in Copenhagen. It existed from 1932 to 1970 and was part of the Army Operational Command. Its main job was anti-aircraft warfare, including target acquisition and counter-battery fire. The regiment’s colors were crimson and blue, its mascot Saint Barbara, and its motto was Suspicite Caelum (Look Up At the Sky).
Origins and key dates:
- Formed on 1 November 1932 as Luftværnsregimentet, linked to the older Kystartilleriregimentet as coast fortifications were transferred to the Navy.
- In 1937, the core units 10. AA, joined by 13. AA and 14. AA, formed the new Luftværnsregimentet.
- On 3 November 1951, the 14. AA split off to form the Jutlandic Air Defence Regiment.
- On 2 July 1962, the 10. AA was transferred to the Royal Danish Air Force.
- On 1 September 1970, the Zealand Air Defence Regiment merged into Kronens Artilleriregiment.
