Joseph Meeks
Joseph Meeks (September 4, 1771 – July 21, 1868) was a furniture maker in New York City who started a shop that grew into a large firm. From 1797 to 1869 the company made good-quality furniture. In 1833 the firm published a broadside with an illustration of their building and 39 drawings of furniture (and a few window treatments), along with prices. It was meant to be a catalog to order furniture from Meeks, but many pieces in that style were unsigned or made by other cabinet makers around the East Coast, so people often used the broadside to tell local makers what they wanted. Later, the firm produced Rococo Revival furniture.
