Long plantar ligament
Long plantar ligament (also called the long calcaneocuboid ligament or superficial long plantar ligament) is a long band on the bottom of the foot. It runs from the heel bone (calcaneus) to the bases of the second through fifth metatarsals. It is the longest ligament in the tarsus. It attaches at the back to the plantar surface of the calcaneus just in front of its tuberosity, and at the front to the tuberosity on the plantar surface of the cuboid bone. Its superficial fibers extend forward to the bases of the second, third, and fourth metatarsals. The ligament forms a groove on the plantar surface of the cuboid that acts as a canal for the tendon of the fibularis longus. Deep to it lies the short plantar ligament. It also separates the two heads of the quadratus plantae muscle.
