Ximoko Party
The Ximoko Party is a small political party in South Africa. It has never had seats in the National Assembly or the provincial legislatures, and as of 2019 it had three municipal councillors in Limpopo.
History
- 1984: Founded as a cultural group by Hudson Ntsanwisi, the prime minister of the Gazankulu bantustan.
- 1990: Became a political party under Ntsanwisi’s leadership.
- 1993: Ntsanwisi died. Some party members allied with the ANC, while others formed the Ximoko Democratic Party and later the Ximoko Progressive Party.
- 1994: The party contested the elections but won no seats.
- 1996: Reformed as the Ximoko Party and contested the 1999 elections in the Northern Province (now Limpopo) but again won no seats.
- Since then: Has mostly contested elections in Limpopo and has not won seats.
Local government
- The party has run for local positions and, as of 2025, holds one seat in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality, a position it has held since 2016.
Ideology and position
- Ideology: Tsonga nationalism, anti-communism, authoritarianism, pro-apartheid.
- Political position: Right-wing to far-right.
