Jan Tarło (1684–1750)
Jan Tarło (1684–1750) was a Polish nobleman from the Tarło family, bearing the Topór coat of arms. Born in Opole Lubelskie, he held many important offices: in 1715 he became Colonel of the Crown Army and Podstoli of the Crown; in 1717 he was promoted to Lieutenant-General of the Crown Army; in 1719 he became voivode (governor) of Lublin Voivodeship, and in 1736 he became voivode of Sandomierz Voivodeship. He served as Marshal of the Crown Tribunal, was a member of the Sejm (the Polish parliament), and was starost of Medyka, Sokal, Jasło and Grabowiec. He was knighted with the Order of the White Eagle in 1736. Tarło married several times, including Zofia Krasińska, and in his will he left Opole to her. He died in 1750 at about 65–66 years old.
