Gerard Maguire (born 25 September 1945) is an Australian actor, producer and screenwriter. He is best known for his TV role in Prisoner as Deputy Governor Jim Fletcher. He is also a prominent voice actor, especially in the 1990s and early 2000s.

He studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, earning a Diploma of Dramatic Art in 1967. Of 3,000 applicants, he was one of only 15 students to complete the program.

Maguire began with small parts on Riptide and The Link Men. His feature film debut was The Demonstrator, where he played university student Steve Slater. The film did not do well commercially. He then starred in Country Town (1971), a spin-off from the ABC soap Bellbird.

In the late 1960s and 1970s he appeared on TV dramas and police shows such as Dynasty, Ryan, Matlock Police, Homicide, Division 4 and Cop Shop. He joined the Melbourne Theatre Company and acted in Going Home (1976) and, that year, in David Williamson’s A Handful of Friends. He had supporting roles in Luke’s Kingdom and Mad Dog Morgan. In 1978 he helped bring Breaker Morant: A Play in Two Acts to life for the Melbourne Theatre Company.

Maguire joined Prisoner in mid-1979 as Jim Fletcher, the Deputy Governor. He became the show’s main male character for about three years and left in early 1982. He later appeared in Kitty and the Bagman (1982). In 1983 he starred in Starting Out as Dr. John Rivers. He also did guest work on Special Squad and appeared in The Surfer and Alice to Nowhere. In 1986 he returned to the stage in David Williamson’s Sons of Cain in London’s West End.

In 1987 Maguire became a television presenter for Ground Zero and appeared in The Flying Doctors in the following years. He also acted in The Power, The Passion as a police investigator and ex-boyfriend of Ellen Byrne Edmonds. While working on a film adaptation in the mid-1980s, he went to California to discuss the project, met producer Jane Alsobrook, and began a relationship. He stayed in Los Angeles for several years.

In 1993 he co-wrote Gross Misconduct with Lance Peters, and in 1994 he co-wrote Seduce Me: Pamela Principle 2. He was the script supervisor for Tunnel Vision and took part in acting workshops with actors such as Jon Voight. In 1995 he moved back to Australia with Alsobrook, who became president of REP, a major Australian film company.

During the late 1990s Maguire appeared in TV movies like Heart of Fire, The Fury Within and The Finder. He also had guest roles on Water Rats, Murder Call and All Saints. He became a prolific voice actor, narrating hundreds of commercials and voicing Titanium Man in Iron Man (1995). He was the diving announcer during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

After the September 11 attacks, Maguire moved to the United States so his wife could be near family in Sedona, Arizona. He continued to work on film projects with Alsobrook and performed in local theatre with Canyon Moon Theatre Company. In April 2002 he narrated Side By Side By Sondheim in Sedona. He kept up voice work online and, after a five-year break, appeared in the independent film Brothel in 2007. As of 2013, he lives in Arizona.

Spouse: Jane Alsobrook (1980–2022; her death).
