Emotional Chemistry is a Doctor Who novel by Simon A. Forward, featuring the Eighth Doctor, Fitz and Trix. The story jumps between 1812 Russia, the year 2024, and the distant future around year 5000, and centers on a forbidden romance between two aliens, Dusha and Razum Kinzhal. Their powerful emotions are tied to ancient artifacts, including a diamond locket and a painting, drawing the Doctor into a plot involving the industrialist Vladimir Garudin and his device Thought Time.

In 2024, UNIT colonel Bugayev investigates artefact thefts and teams up with the Doctor to stop Garudin from using history itself to manipulate power. In the far future, Kinzhal’s forces fight on, and Angel, his devoted aide, dies. Dusha learns she is the other half of Kinzhal; if they are reunited, they could become a star-like being so powerful it could destroy Earth. To prevent this, the Doctor tries to unite the lovers through time-travel technology, while exposing Garudin’s schemes.

In the end, Angel’s death allows Dusha to inhabit Angel’s body to be with Kinzhal, and the diamond helps uncover Sabbath’s masters. Garudin commits suicide, his time-travel gear is destroyed, and the Doctor, Fitz and Trix continue their journey to face Sabbath.
