Ophelia Crossland
Ophelia Crossland is a Ghanaian fashion designer and the Creative Director of Ophelia Crossland Designs Ltd and Ohemaa Kids. She was born on 16 March 1983 in Osu, Ghana, to archaeologist Prof. Leonard Brighton Crossland and Mrs. Sarah Crossland. She grew up in Accra with her twin brother and elder sister Velma Owusu-Bempah. She went to St Mary's Senior High School in Korle Gonno and studied at Vogue Style School of Fashion and Design by Joyce Ababio, where she was named best graduating student in 2004.
She began her fashion career in 2004 and has designed clothes for many prominent Ghanaians, including Joyce Bamford-Addo, Georgina Theodora Woods, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Gifty Anti, and Joselyn Dumas. In 2017 she became Swarovski's West African Ambassador and represented Ghana at Swarovski's Fashion Exhibition in Dubai. She designed costumes for the cast of Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Love Or Something Like That in 2014 and made the gown worn by Ghana’s Miss Universe at the finals in Thailand.
In 2019, Crossland represented Africa and Ghana at the Global Qipao Invitational Exhibition in Hangzhou, China, creating a qipao that blended Ghana’s Kente with the traditional dress. Vogue Italia highlighted her charity work with Kayayei, Ghanaian head porters. She is married to broadcaster and designer Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) and they have two daughters.
Awards include Womenswear Designer of the Year at the 2018 Glitz Style Awards, Best Wardrobe and Costume Designer for Love Or Something Like That at the Ghana Movie Awards, and Swarovski Training Workshop Award and Brand Ambassador.
