Four Wangs
Four Wangs were four Chinese landscape painters in the Qing dynasty (the 1600s). All were named Wang. They are famous for shan shui, or landscape painting. The painters were Wang Shimin (1592–1680), Wang Jian (1598–1677), Wang Hui (1632–1717), and Wang Yuanqi (1642–1715). They were part of the Six Masters of the early Qing period and led the Orthodox School of painting. This school followed Dong Qichang’s ideas and kept traditional styles, unlike the later Individualist painters such as Bada Shanren and Shitao.
