Jaimie Leonard
Jaimie E. Leonard (January 29, 1974 – June 8, 2013) was a United States Army officer who served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, at Fort Drum, New York. She held the rank of major and was posthumously promoted to lieutenant colonel. Leonard died at age 39 in Sharana, Afghanistan, from a small-arms injury after an insider attack in Paktika Province. She is buried at West Point Cemetery.
Her military career included deployments to Bosnia in 1999, Iraq in 2005, and Afghanistan in 2011 with the Regional Command South headquarters. She was on a subsequent Afghanistan deployment in 2013 when she was fatally injured.
Leonard received numerous awards for her service, including two Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, five Overseas Service Ribbons, the NATO Medal, the Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
