Calls (film)
Calls is a 2021 Tamil crime thriller directed and written by J. Sabarish. The movie stars V. J. Chitra, Vinodhini, Devadarshini, and R. Sundarrajan. It is Chitra’s posthumous film release and is loosely inspired by the movie Aruvi.
Plot
Nandhini takes a job at a call center to help her family. Her manager gives her a tough challenge: renew subscriptions for at least 20 customers in one day, or she will be fired.
Production
The film runs 151 minutes and is produced by Infinite Pictures, with Rockfort Entertainment handling distribution. Cinematography and editing are by J. Sabarish, and the music is by Thameem Ansari. Principal photography began in mid-2019 and wrapped in March 2020. The director initially considered Riythvika for the lead role, then considered Mahima Nambiar or Arthana Binu, but ultimately cast V. J. Chitra. The release, originally planned for July 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The official trailer was released on 29 January 2021.
Release and reception
Calls was released in theaters on 26 February 2021. It received negative reviews from critics, including a 1.5 out of 5 rating from The Times of India Samayam.
