Robert Weiss (choreographer)
Robert Weiss is an American ballet dancer and choreographer. He is the founding artistic director of Carolina Ballet, a position he has held since 1997. Weiss began his professional career at age 17 with the New York City Ballet under George Balanchine and eventually became a principal dancer before 1977. Balanchine created several roles for him, including Ballo della Regina. He remained with the New York City Ballet for 16 years. Weiss then served as artistic director of the Pennsylvania Ballet from 1982 to 1990.
