Jackson is a small town in Northampton County, eastern North Carolina. It is the county seat and part of the Roanoke Rapids area.

History
Jackson began around the Northampton County courthouse after the county was created in 1741. It was originally called Northampton Courthouse and later renamed Jackson in 1826 in honor of General Andrew Jackson. The town has a long history of political debates between Whigs and Democrats. Lafayette visited in 1825, and in the early 1800s, horse racing and breeding drew national attention, with the Sir Archie sire brought to a nearby plantation in 1816. Several buildings and districts in and around Jackson are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Education
The local elementary school serving Jackson is Central Elementary School, opened for the 2006–2007 school year by combining Seaboard Coates Elementary and Jackson Eastside Elementary. Northampton County Schools operates seven schools in the district and has a Central Services building in Jackson.
