Solanum habrochaites, the hairy tomato, is a wild relative of the tomato in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Native to Ecuador and Peru, it is a crucial source of genetic variation for improving the cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). Breeders use its genes to enhance disease resistance and environmental tolerance. The plant has been known by several older names, including Lycopersicon hirsutum and Lycopersicon agrimoniifolium.
