WCBA (1350 AM) was a radio station serving the Elmira–Corning, New York area. It broadcast at 1,000 watts by day and 37 watts at night on 1350 kHz from South Corning. The station first signed on in 1948 as Corning's second AM station. It became known for longtime morning host Jack Shane (John T. Horn) and Dean Slack. In 1988 WCBA-FM joined the air, giving the brand an FM presence. The stations changed owners several times, including Eolin Broadcasting in 1990, Route 81 Radio, and WS Media, LLC (owned by William Christian). The AM carried an adult standards format for much of the 1990s; WCBA-FM carried adult contemporary. In 1997 WCBA acquired rival WCLI; in 2001 Eolin bought WENY. Horn died in 2002. After Route 81 Radio folded, the stations were sold to WS Media. In 2009 WCBA switched to Fox Sports Radio. In 2013 Great Radio, LLC, controlled by Christian and his son, bought WCBA for $6,000. WCBA went silent on June 21, 2019, returned December 20, 2019, then went silent again on August 9, 2021. The license was canceled on August 11, 2022, and its translator W260DE (99.9 FM) was canceled that same day.
