JVW Girls is a South African girls’ football academy based in Bedfordview, Gauteng. Also known as the Sapphires (under-20) and the Gems (academy), it is the development arm of JVW. The club was founded in 2012 by Janine van Wyk and Lauren Duncan. The team plays at Jeppe Quondam stadium, which holds about 1,000 people. The manager is Ronald Molepo. The under-20 team competes in the Sasol Women’s League, South Africa’s second-tier women’s league, while the under-14 and under-16 teams play in the Gauteng Women’s Development League.

Coaching: under-20 is led by Samuel Dube; under-16 by Cebile Maseko.

Key achievements: In March 2024, JVW won the Pirates Cup for Women, beating Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies on penalties after a 1-1 draw. In 2018, they became the first South African team at the Dana Cup in Denmark; their first 2019 match was a 2-0 win over Stokke IL of Norway. The under-16 Gems were runners-up in the inaugural 2023 Gauteng U-15 Development League, finishing with 44 points (14 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses). They were runners-up in the inaugural GWDL Top 8 pre-season tournament, losing 4-2 to Sundowns U-16.

The academy helps players move up to the JVW senior team, and it participates in events like the ENGEN Knockout Challenge.
