J. Everett Sargent
J. Everett Sargent (Jonathan Everett Sargent) (October 23, 1816 – January 6, 1890) was an American lawyer and Republican politician from New Hampshire. He served as Speaker of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1853 to 1854, as President of the New Hampshire Senate from 1854 to 1855, and as Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court of Judicature from March 17, 1873, until the court was abolished on August 17, 1874.
Sargent was born in New London, New Hampshire, to Ebenezer Sargent and Prudence Chase. He attended Dartmouth College, earning an A.B. in 1840 and an A.M. in 1843. He had five children, including Marie Louise, Annie Lawrie, George Lincoln, and John Jones. He died in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1890.
