Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences of Iași
Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences of Iași is a public university in Iași, Romania. It is named after the scientist Ion Ionescu de la Brad, who started the first agricultural classes in Romania in the 1840s.
History in brief:
- 1912: An Agricultural Sciences Department was created at the University of Iași, marking the start of formal agricultural higher education in Iași.
- 1933: Became the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Iași, based in Chișinău.
- 1937: Joined the Gheorghe Asachi Polytechnic School, still in Chișinău.
- After the Soviet occupation, the Chișinău faculty became independent as the Chișinău Agricultural Institute (now the State Agrarian University of Moldova).
- In Iași, the Faculty of Agronomy was re-established within the Polytechnic School.
- 1948: Became the Agronomic Institute of Iași.
- 1951: Horticulture and Animal Sciences faculties were added; Veterinary Medicine in 1961.
- 1990: Renamed Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
- 2021: Became Iași University of Life Sciences. It currently has four faculties.
