Huron Glacier
Huron Glacier is a glacier on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is about 4.8 nautical miles long (8.9 km) and 2.2 nautical miles wide (4.1 km). The glacier flows east-northeast toward Moon Bay, emptying north of Yana Point. It lies near Perunika Glacier to the east, Kaliakra to the southeast, Struma to the south, Iskar to the west-northwest, and Huntress to the northeast, with Bowles Ridge to the north, Wörner Gap to the west, and the Tangra Mountains to the south. Ice from tributaries draining the northern slopes between Mount Friesland and Helmet Peak feeds Huron Glacier. Camp Academia sits on its upper part in the northwestern foothills of Zograf Peak. The glacier was named in 1958 by the UK Antarctic Place-names Committee after the American ship Huron from New Haven, Connecticut, which visited the area in 1820–21 and 1821–22. Its central coordinates are 62°37′50″S 60°06′50″W, and it has been mapped by British and Bulgarian surveys in 1968–2009.
