Eloy Fominaya
Eloy Fominaya (June 10, 1925 – April 8, 2002) was an American composer, conductor, violinist, and music educator who also became a luthier in 1985. Born in New York City, he was a child prodigy who played the violin for Eleanor Roosevelt at the White House before age ten and performed Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra at age 15. In 1966 he became chair of the Fine Arts Department at Augusta State University, a post he held for 16 years, and he spent a total of 33 years there teaching violin, composition, contemporary harmony and humanities, and counterpoint. He retired as a Professor of Music at age 70. He was associate conductor and violinist with the Augusta Symphony, musical director and conductor of the Augusta Chorale Society for 12 years, and directed the Augusta Youth Orchestra from 1966 to 1994. He died in Augusta, Georgia.
