Sungai Petani Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani, MPSPK) is the local government that administers Sungai Petani and the entire Kuala Muda District in Kedah, Malaysia. It is the most populous local government in Kedah.

History
- In the 1950s, the Local Councils Ordinance 1952 established the local government system.
- Sungai Petani Town Board was formed in 1953 to govern the town area.
- On August 1, 1975, the Kuala Muda Local Government District Council (MDKTKM) was set up to cover Sungai Lalang, Jeniang, Merbok, Bukit Selambau, Bedong, and Gurun.
- On February 1, 1978, the Kuala Muda District Council (MDKM) replaced MDKTKM under the Local Government Act 1976, uniting various town boards and local councils under one authority.
- MDKM was responsible for planning, building control, health, development, and licensing. It was upgraded to Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSPK) on July 2, 1994.

Today
- MPSPK handles development control, licensing, planning, and provision of urban facilities for Sungai Petani and Kuala Muda.
- The municipal area covers the whole Kuala Muda District, with major towns like Bedong, Gurun, Tikam Batu, and Jeniang having branch offices.
- The council is divided into 18 zones.
- Leadership: President Tunku Iskandar Shah Tunku Muszaffar Shah; Secretary Mohammad Hasbullah Bin Abd. Hadi.
- Motto: Transformasi Ke Arah Kecemerlangan (Transformation Towards Excellence).
