Iban Zubiaurre Urrutia was born on January 22, 1983, in Mendaro, Spain. He is a former footballer who played as a right-back. He grew up with Real Sociedad and played for their B team and then the first team.

A major moment in his career was a legal dispute between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao. Athletic signed him while he was under contract with Real Sociedad, which led to a long court case. The court ruled that Athletic had to pay Real Sociedad five million euros, and that Zubiaurre could play for Athletic in the 2006–07 season. He appeared for Athletic in La Liga, debuting on February 11, 2007, as a substitute against Atlético Madrid.

Because he wasn’t getting much playing time, he was loaned out to other teams: Elche, Albacete, and Salamanca. In 2013 he briefly joined Racing Santander but left after about a month without playing.

During his time with Athletic, he also played a little in the Europa League. Internationally, he played for Spain's youth teams (U16 to U21) but scored no goals.

He later retired from professional football.
