I Love My Dad
I Love My Dad is a 2022 American comedy film written and directed by James Morosini, inspired by real events in his life. It stars Patton Oswalt, Morosini, and Claudia Sulewski. The story follows Chuck, a father who, after his son Franklin blocks him online, creates a fake online persona named Becca and tries to get Franklin to meet her in person, risking their already fragile relationship.
Filming took place in Syracuse, New York, and wrapped in June 2021. The movie premiered at South by Southwest on March 12, 2022, and opened in U.S. theaters on August 5, 2022 (on demand August 12). Magnolia Pictures released North American rights.
The film runs 95 minutes, is in English, and had a box office of about $103,343. Critics were mixed to positive: Rotten Tomatoes shows about 72% positive, and Metacritic scores it at 58 out of 100. Praised elements include Oswalt’s performance and Sulewski’s work. At SXSW, the film won both the Jury and Audience Awards for Narrative Feature.
