Hywel Davies (jockey)

Hywel Davies (born 1957) is a Welsh former National Hunt jockey and current horse racing commentator.

Early life
- Born in Cardigan, Ceredigion, Wales.
- Welsh speaker; learned English by age 7.
- Attended Cardigan Comprehensive School (1969–1975).

Racing career
- Spent eight years as the retained jockey for Tim Forster at Letcombe Bassett near Lambourn, then rode freelance for trainers such as Josh Gifford and Nicky Henderson.
- Won 761 races in the UK and more than 800 worldwide; retired in 1994 at age 37.
- Notable achievement: won the 1985 Grand National on Last Suspect, a 50–1 outsider.
- Other major wins include the 1989 Hennessy Gold Cup, 1990 Queen Mother Champion Chase, 1992 Whitbread Gold Cup, and other significant races.

After racing
- Became the UK representative for Gain Horse Feeds.
- Worked as a guest commentator and presenter on At the Races, Channel 4 Racing, and BBC Cymru; co-presenter of Rasus for S4C from 1995 to present.

Personal life
- Was married to Rachel Davies for 13 years; has a son, James Davies, who is also a jockey.
- His partner is Vikki Dunn, co-founder of The Farm Group, a post-production TV company.
