Mescit

Mescit (Arabic: مسجد, Turkish: mescit) means a small mosque or prayer space. It is usually used for daily prayers, not large gatherings like Friday or Eid services. In Turkish usage, a mescit is smaller than a cami (mosque) and normally has no minbar (pulpit) or minaret. Many schools, offices, and public buildings have mescits as a place for the five daily prayers. Historically, small mescits were also built in markets, caravanserais, and forts across the Ottoman Empire.
