14th State Council of China
The Li Qiang government is the 14th and current State Council of China, in place since March 2023. It followed the Li Keqiang government. Premier Li Qiang leads the government and ranks second to Xi Jinping among the top leaders of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.
In March 2023, during the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress, President Xi Jinping nominated Li Qiang to be Premier. The National People’s Congress approved his appointment. Under China’s constitution, the President nominates the Premier, who then nominates the Vice Premiers, State Councilors, and Ministers; the NPC votes to approve these nominations.
China is a one-party state led by the Chinese Communist Party. The current Vice Premiers are Ding Xuexiang, He Lifeng, Zhang Guoqing, and Liu Guozhong.
