Dave Currey (American football)

Dave Currey (David Currey) was an American college athletics administrator, football player, and coach. Born May 13, 1943, he played running back at Howard (AL) in 1963. He built a long career in coaching and administration, serving as athletic director at Chapman University from 1990 to 2015. As a football coach, he led Long Beach State from 1977 to 1983, posting a 40–36 record and guiding teams to eight wins in 1980 and 1983, including a PCAA title in 1980. He was the head coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1984 to 1988, finishing with a 19–36 record and briefly serving as Cincinnati’s athletic director in 1984. His overall head coaching record was 59–72 in college football, and his high school head coaching record at St. Bonaventure High School in California was 26–6. Currey also coached at St. Bonaventure High School (1967–1969), was an assistant at Stanford (1970–1976) and UCLA (1989). He passed away on July 15, 2023, at the age of 80.
