HL Group
HL Group, formerly Halla Group, is a South Korean chaebol active in automobiles, construction, distribution, investment, education, and sports, with operations in Korea and around the world. It is headquartered in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and led by Chairman Chung Mong-won. The company includes HL Mando as one of its subsidiaries.
The group began in 1962 as Hyundai International, Inc. The Halla name started being used in 1978 for a cement business, named after Mount Halla on Jeju Island. Halla collapsed in 1997 during the Asian financial crisis. In 2008, Halla repurchased Mando, a car company it had sold during the crisis.
HL Group also sponsors hockey teams, including Anyang Halla in Asia League Ice Hockey and Kiekko-Vantaa in Finland's Mestis.
