Neath (1922) F.C.
Neath (1922) F.C. was a Welsh football team from Llandarcy, a village near Neath in Neath Port Talbot, Wales. They played in the Welsh Football League and, in 2005, merged with Skewen Athletic to form Neath Athletic.
History
- Founded in 1922 as National Oil Refineries F.C., a works team for the Llandarcy oil refinery.
- Played in the Gwalia League and was a founder member of the Neath League in 1931.
- Reached the first two West Wales Amateur Cup finals but lost both; won the trophy in 1951 (beating Plasmarl) and again in 1955.
- By the late 1940s, also played in Welsh League Division 2 (West).
- In 1954, renamed BP Llandarcy F.C. after the BP refinery purchase.
- Left the Welsh League in 1958 and joined the Neath & District League, becoming champions in 1961–62, 1962–63, 1964–65, 1967–68, 1968–69 and 1969–70.
- Returned to the Welsh Football League in 1971–72. In 1977–78, finished third in Division Two and were promoted to Division One.
- Won the West Wales Senior Cup in 1995–96 and 1996–97, both times beating Swansea City at the Vetch Field.
- In 1997–98, finished third and were promoted to Division One for 1998–99.
- Renamed Neath in 2000. Were runners-up in Welsh Football League Division One in 2002–03 and beat Bettws in the Welsh Football League Cup final that season at Ton Pentre.
- In 2005, merged with Skewen Athletic to form Neath Athletic.
