Gyeongsun (personal name Kim Pu) was the 56th and last king of Silla, ruling from 927 to 935. He was the son of Kim Hyo-Jong and Princess Gyea, and a descendant of King Munseong. After Gyeongju was attacked in 927, the Later Baekje king Kyŏn Hwŏn placed him on the throne. By this time, Silla was a small remnant of its former empire. His wife was Lady Jukbang, and his sons included Crown Prince Maui and Beomgong. In 935, Gyeongsun abdicated in favor of Taejo of Goryeo, ending Silla and beginning the Goryeo dynasty. He then married Taejo’s daughter, Princess Nangrang, and became sasim-gwan (inspector-general) of Goryeo, based in Gyeongju. He spent the rest of his life near the Goryeo capital Kaesong and died in 978, about 80 years old. His tomb is in Jangnam-myeon, Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. According to the Samguk sagi, his son Crown Prince Maui opposed his submission to Goryeo and became a hermit on Mount Kumgang.
