Bartłomiej Oleś
Bartłomiej Oleś (born 4 January 1973 in Sosnowiec, Poland) is a jazz and free-improvisation drummer, composer and record producer. He is the twin brother of Marcin Oleś and the art director of Fenommedia, a Polish independent jazz label.
He studied classical percussion at the Music High School in Łódź and began playing drum set in 1988. Throughout his career he has performed with many notable musicians, including Kenny Werner, Theo Jörgensmann, David Murray, Erik Friedlander, Ken Vandermark and his brother Marcin Oleś.
Since 2003 he has been a member of the Trio Oleś–Jörgensmann–Oleś, with Theo Jörgensmann and Marcin Oleś. The trio has released four albums: Miniatures, Directions (named Best Recording of the Year 2005 by the Polish online jazz magazine Diapazon), Live in Poznań 2006, and Alchemia.
An album he led with American pianist Kenny Werner was named Best Recording of the Year 2006 by Polish Radio. In 2007 he and Marcin Oleś started the Oleś Duo. He also composes music for theatre and film.
