Cecropia obtusifolia
Cecropia obtusifolia is a plant in the Urticaceae family. It grows in Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico and Panama. In Central America it is called Guarumo and it is invasive on the islands of Hawaii.
Common names include blunt-leaved trumpet tree, pop-a-gun, tree-of-laziness and snakewood tree.
People use Cecropia obtusifolia in traditional Amerindian medicine. Many other Cecropia species are reputed to help with heart problems, coughs, asthma and bronchitis.
The plant may help relax blood vessels, possibly by interfering with angiotensin.
Conservation status: Least Concern.
