Gulfport Army Air Field Hangar

The Gulfport Army Air Field Hangar, also known as the FBO Hangar and Gulfport Municipal Airport Terminal, is a large World War II era building in Gulfport, Mississippi. It was built in 1944–1945 to help train crews for the B-29 Superfortress as part of Gulfport Army Air Field, which had been expanded in 1944.

The hangar is a concrete and steel structure about 200 feet long and 80 feet wide, with a high vaulted roof and lean-tos on the east and west sides. The roof used two-inch gypsum planks sealed with bitumen, and the doors and siding are sheet metal.

After World War II, the air field was deemed surplus and transferred to the City of Gulfport in 1949. The western lean-to served as the Gulfport Municipal Airport passenger terminal from about 1947 to 1963. The hangar was leased to various aviation businesses until August 2005, when Hurricane Katrina damaged it heavily. Restoration began in 2015 and was completed in May 2016.

On May 26, 2016, the Gulfport–Biloxi Regional Airport Authority leased the hangar to the Mississippi National Guard.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (added March 21, 2011; NRHP No. 11000111) and was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 2012. It sits on about 5.47 acres at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
