Eugene Walter (November 27, 1874 – September 26, 1941) was an American playwright best known for The Easiest Way. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and served as a private in the 1st Ohio Cavalry during the Spanish–American War. In 1908 he married actress Charlotte Walker in Cincinnati; they separated in 1910 and divorced in October 1923. He then secretly married Mary Kissel in Mexico; Kissel was a New York artist’s model and actress. In 1910, writer Marguerite Martyn described Walter as small in stature but sturdy, quiet and thoughtful, with a keen interest in life. Walter died of cancer in Hollywood, California, in 1941 and was buried at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Sawtelle.
