Giebel (mountain)
Giebel is a mountain in the Allgäu Alps of Bavaria, Germany. It rises to 1,949 meters above sea level and is part of the Oberallgäu region. It marks the northeastern end of the Giebel ridge that branches northeast from Laufbacher Eck. The Alpine hut Giebelhaus lies to the northeast, but road access from Hinterstein is not open to the public.
There is no officially marked path to the summit. The Giebel can be climbed from the Feldalpe on trackless terrain and requires a head for heights and sure-footedness. A ridge crossing from the Giebel over Berggächtle and Salober to Laufbacher Eck is occasionally attempted by experienced climbers (UIAA grade III). The plant life is similar to that of Höfats and Schneck. The first ascent was made by locals.
