Romani CRISS (Romani Center for Social Intervention and Studies) is a Romanian non-governmental organization that defends the rights of the Roma and fights discrimination. It runs projects to improve Roma education and health care. The Roma made up about 3.3% of Romania's population in 2011. A 2002 estimate put the Roma population at 1.5–2 million, which could be around 8–9% of Romanians. Romani CRISS was founded on April 4, 1993. Margareta Matache was executive director from 2005 to 2012, and the current executive director is Marian Mandache.
