Giancarlo Pagliarini, born on 23 April 1942 in Milan, is an Italian politician and former accountant. He studied at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and later entered politics with Lega Nord. He was elected to the Italian Senate in 1992 and re-elected in 1994, and then to the Chamber of Deputies in 1996 and 2001, serving until 2006. Pagliarini served as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning in the Berlusconi I government from May 1994 to January 1995. He led Lega Nord’s Padania project from 1996 to 1998 and was the party’s floor leader in the Chamber of Deputies from 1999 to 2001. He left Lega Nord in January 2007 after not seeking re-election in 2006, then joined The Right in 2008. He ran for Lombardy in 2008 but was not elected, and he tried to become mayor of Milan in 2011 but did not reach the runoff. He later joined Act to Stop the Decline, a federalist liberal party, and has been part of it since 2013. Pagliarini is married to Sonia Bekdemiran and they have two children, and he lives in Milan.
