Gian Luigi Bonelli
Gian Luigi Bonelli (born Giovanni Luigi Bonelli) was an Italian comic book writer and publisher. He was born on 22 December 1908 in Milan and died on 12 January 2001 in Alessandria. He co-created the famous Tex Willer in 1948 with artist Aurelio Galleppini. In 1940 he started the publishing house Casa Audace Editrice, which later became Sergio Bonelli Editore. In 1948 he also created Occhio Cupo. Tex Willer became one of Italy’s most popular comic characters and was translated into many languages. Bonelli wrote several early Zagor stories (issues #6–10, 13–14) and stayed in charge of Tex’s production until his death. His son Sergio Bonelli (1932–2011) was also a comic writer and publisher.
