Chunampet is a small village in Cheyyur taluk, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, India. It lies 99 km from Chennai and 22 km from Madurantakam on the Madurantakam-Marakkanam road, near the southern edge of the Buckingham Canal. In colonial times it was the seat of the Chunampet zamindar. The village is known for a 19th‑century temple, Kiratamanjeswarar; the temple was once ruined but restored by Arunachala Mudaliar, the former zamindar, and his descendants. It also has an old mosque built by the Nawab of Arcot, Dost Ali Khan, in 1760. Chunampet is about 9 km from the Bay of Bengal coast and is surrounded by salt pans that stretch for over seven miles.
