George Ramaremisa
George Ramaremisa (born 1 April 1947) is a South African politician and retired colonel from Limpopo. He served as a member of the National Assembly from 1994 to 1999, representing the National Party in South Africa’s first post-apartheid Parliament. During apartheid, he was a colonel in the Venda Defence Force and a member of the Council of National Unity, the Venda military government.
In 1994, Ramaremisa was elected to the National Assembly. While in Parliament, he was a vocal critic of the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Bill.
In 1999 he sought re-election, ranking second on the New National Party’s Limpopo regional list, but the party did not win any Limpopo seats. He also stood for the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, again second on the NNP list, but the party only won one provincial seat.
In the 2000 local elections, he stood as a mayoral candidate in Thohoyandou under the NNP–DA banner. He faced ANC candidates, initially Samson Ndou who was later replaced by Norman Makumbane. Ramaremisa was sworn in as a local councillor after the election, but he did not become mayor.
