Prosomyleus
Prosomyleus rhomboidalis is a large omnivorous freshwater fish from South America and the only species in the monospecific genus Prosomyleus, which is part of the pacu/piranha family, Serrasalmidae. It lives in the Amazon River basin and in rivers of the northern and eastern Guiana Shield. It can grow up to about 40.7 cm (16 inches) long. It used to be placed in the genus Myleus, and was once thought to be the sole member of its subgenus Prosomyleus; in 2021 it was reclassified into its own genus. Its conservation status is Least Concern. Synonyms include Myletes rhomboidalis, Myleus rhomboidalis, Myloplus rhomboidalis, and Tetragonopterus latus.
