1st Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Battalion is a special unit of the Brazilian Army that protects against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

History: It began in 1953 as the Chemical Warfare Company. On 31 December 1987 the company was dissolved and reformed as the Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Company, based in Rio de Janeiro. It became the 1st Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Battalion in 2012.

Mission: Its role is to help prepare and deploy troops and resources to deal with environmental NBC threats. It surveys, identifies, detects, and monitors contamination levels and decontaminates people, equipment, and areas affected by NBC agents.
